The Centre's Activities
These focus around four core areas:
Research: Research at the Centre focuses on cutting edge developments in the theory and practice of testing. Psychometrics is a rich academic discipline undergoing huge changes. Multi-media and on-line technologies are changing how tests are developed and delivered and what they measure. Increased mobility of workers and the growth of multinational organisations require comparable ways of assessing people internationally. Public policy initiatives are extending the use of assessments throughout society.
Training: Psychometrics was once the unique preserve of psychologists but now human resource professionals, managers, teachers, academics and health professionals require a more objective understanding of human performance and measurement issues. The Centre's courses cover subjects ranging from advanced statistical modelling methods for academic teaching staff and PhD students, to courses qualifying HR consultants and other professionals to use specific tests.
Services to Industry: These range from consultancy - focusing on setting up and evaluating a company's methods of recruiting and developing staff - to ongoing collaboration with long-standing corporate partners. We aim to keep organisations who are involved in any form of psychometric testing at the forefront of developments in this dynamic area.
Developing New Tests: The Centre has a long-standing relationship with Pearson Assessment (and its predecessors), the world's largest test publisher, to adapt the Ravens range of tests that measure different human abilities over the life-span. It has also been chosen by ECPA, the largest test publisher in France, to translate and adapt two of their tests, D5D and TD12 for the English-speaking market.
